I would like to thank the CERT members who helped out at Sunday’s Save the Music event in Belmont, specifically Anna Lee, Jane Ammenti, John Ammenti, Jann Lassman, Bob Lassman, Hayham Tam, Blythe Tam, Laila Hinkle & Dave Hinkle. It was great meeting you and I look forward to working with all of the CERT members in the future. Thanks again.
and we can’t forget Terese Ruth!
I would like to thank the CERT members, who took time out of their day on Monday, to help us with directing traffic and people at the Grand Opening of SunEdison. It was a success in large part because you were there. Thanks to Terese, Jane, Sam, Bill, George & Ivy. My apologies for leaving Terese out of my previous comments for Save the Music (I did thank her in person)….
CERT members are invited to a new 4-hour mental health program, being introduced by the Red Cross, designed to give people tools to help themselves and their neighbors with the effects of a crisis or disaster. The class also contains specific elements on how to help people recognize stress in children and provides information on ways adults can help children cope. The Red Cross has been developing the course for the past several months and it was first launched in the Gulf region. The Bay Area is the third area to take advantage of this opportunity. The program, called Neighbor to Neighbor will be held on Monday, October 17th from Noon to 4 PM at the Twin Pines Senior & Community Center (20 Twin Pines Lane, in Belmont). To register for this course, go to the front desk at the Belmont Senor & Community Center; call 650-595-7444.
I am looking for a few CERT members to help out at the dedication ceremony for the Belmont Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge on Saturday, November 19th from 8:30AM – 11:30AM (event itself is 9am-11:30am but you would need to be on site at 8:30). You will be directing people and helping ensure bicyclist/pedestrian safety (they are having a grand opening of the bridge where bicyclists and pedestrians will be allowed to ride/walk across for the first time). As with Sun Edison, communications will be via FRS radios. Please contact Terese Ruth if you are available for this detail.
CERT has been around since 1985, when it was started by Los Angeles City Fire and we’ve come a long way since then. Check out a recent article from Emergency Management magazine that tells us just how far we’ve come http://tinyurl.com/7hobon6
Toy Drive & Santa Visit at the Fire House! Join us for a visit with Santa, meet your Belmont Firefighters, and add joy to the lives of children in need. Bring a toy for donation, enjoy holiday refreshments, children’s coloring activities, and don’t forget your camera for that picture with Santa! The whole family is invited to Belmont Fire Station 14, 911 Granada St on Thursday, December 8th from 5:00-8:00pm. All are welcome, even for a few minutes to just say hello. This event is being coordinated by the Belmont Fire Dept. and Belmont Parks & Recreation, but we can always use extra help if you’re available. If any CERT members would like to help at this event, contact Lt. Pat Halleran 650-595-7430 or path@belmont.gov.
