Great California ShakeOut on October 20

Millions of people worldwide will practice how to Drop, Cover, and Hold On at 10:20 a.m. on October 20* during Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills, which began in California in 2008.

Participating is a great way for your family or organization to be prepared to survive and recover quickly from big earthquakes– wherever you live, work, or travel. ShakeOut is also a major activity of America’s PrepareAthon!shakeout_global_2016_poster_dontfreakout_color

(Event Hours are 8am to 5pm both Saturday and Sunday).

If you would like to assist at this event, it would be great to have your help.  Limited details are listed above, with full details (meeting location/briefing time etc.) being sent later to those who will be assisting.

2016 National Night Out- Belmont

Belmont CERT members staffed the information table at the NNO event at Carlmont Village Shopping Center while Capt Halleran made the rounds to all eight neighborhood locations. Thanks to all that came out to chat with the public about disaster preparedness.  Also thanks to Terese for the photos.

Redwood City/San Carlos “Are You Ready?” Classes

You can schedule a free two-hour ‘Are You Ready?’ disaster preparation class for your own group, neighborhood, office, business, or team (minimum of 20 people), on your schedule, provided by the Redwood City Fire Department.

The presentation will provide valuable and very useful information on topics such as:
* Creating a family/office disaster plan
* Assembling home/office and portable disaster supply kit
* Sheltering in place
* Evacuation procedures
* Preparing for and responding to specific disasters

In all places, home, work or school, it pays to be ready and prepared to deal with all types of natural and man-made disasters. Here on the Peninsula, we are subject to power outages, earthquakes, fires, floods, severe storms, extreme heat, gas leaks, plane crashes, disease and/or flu pandemics, and a host of other possible situations. The potential for an act of terror adds yet another dimension to disaster awareness and preparedness. When a disaster happens and police, fire and emergency services are spread thin, will you be prepared to care for yourself, family, friends and neighbors?

The Redwood City Fire Department offers training at the Fire Station or at your own preferred location, to neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and community groups of 20 or more.  Schedule a FREE presentation for your group. Please contact: Redwood City Fire Department Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, Christy Adonis at (650) 780-5798 or cadonis@redwoodcity.org
