CERT Social Event

The concert in the park last Friday was well attended.  Just had to look for the green triage tarp and the green traffic cones with matching green balloons.  Good opportunity to get to know our fellow CERT members on a personal level.  Only downside was the unseasonably cool conditions once the sun slipped downwards.   This was also a public unveiling of the prototype CERT T-shirts (more info on that at the Aug team meeting).

CERT in the news….kinda

KTVU carried a story on the Sunday evening news on a disaster preparedness event in Menlo Park.  Although CERT was not mentioned, they did interview a CERT person with her vest and hard hat on.  Click on the link to read the story and see the video.

Redwood City Exercise a Success!

Many thanks to Redwood City CERT for allowing BSC CERT to participate in today’s exercise, and double thanks to the firefighters of BSCFD and RCFD for their terrific support!  This exercise allowed everyone to get first hand experience in multiple areas, interior building search, exterior survey, radio skills, ICS organization and fire suppression.  Some of us even got to check out the Bullard Thermal Imager that BSCFD now carries on their vehicles.

Redwood City CERT Exercise Opportunity

Redwood City is conducting two skills exercises at an empty office building and has offered to take on a few BSC CERT members.

Glow Sticks ordered

Folks may remember my demonstration of the versatile Glow Stick flashlight/wand/whistle.  I found some for a really good price and ordered a box of 24 and will bring them to the August team meeting for folks to purchase if interested.  Only $4 ea compared to $6 at REI (when they’re in stock).

CERT training updates

Due to lower than expected RSVP’s (must be the summer vacations?) the Red Cross Shelter training planned for 7/14 has been rescheduled.  The refresher first aid training will also be moved to a later date for similar reasons.  Go to the Training/Activity page for the latest information.
