Identification Cards for Active Members (Redwood City/San Carlos)

Identification (ID) Cards for Active members:  What does this mean to you?

ID cards have been the topic of many discussions at the RC/SC team meetings, resulting in the criteria listed below to receive your new ID card.  Taking the basic CERT course; participating in CERT activities, trainings and meetings; working with professional first responders; you as CERT members represent a group that has received additional training in many areas.  You have an understanding of ICS, chain of command, accountability and professionalism as a team and to our community.

CERT members are seen and respected among their peers, the community and first responders as a knowledgeable team with specialized training.  It is the team’s intent to keep all member’s skills sharp and up to date.  To do this, the team feels a need to establish a minimum criteria to be considered “active”.

Active members:
– Attended a minimum of 2 trainings/meetings within the past 12 months.
– Completion of ICS-100 available on-line
– Completed and Signed Disaster Service Worker form

If you have been unable to attend 2 trainings/meetings in the past 12 months, you must complete the online interactive course at the link below, and present your certificate prior to receiving your new ID card.  http://www.citizencorps.gov/cert/IS317/

9/5 CERT Meeting cancelled

Tonight’s physical meeting Wednesday, September 05, 2012 has been cancelled, we will hold a brief meeting at our upcoming BBQ on Saturday, September 15th, 2012.  Hope to see you there!  Summer is coming to a close, school is started and schedules are full.

In place of tonight’s meeting, all CERT members are encouraged take a peek at the new online interactive course, a great way to refresh your skills.  http://www.citizencorps.gov/cert/IS317/ You can take one module at a time, and once you have completed all modules, you are able to take the test to receive a certificate of completion.  I have personally taken the online class and believe it is a great way to refresh your skills.  Also if you have friends interested in CERT who haven’t been able to make the classroom lead course, this is a great way to introduce them to CERT and complete it at their own pace.
